Training Waiver Instructions

If your Georgia POST certification is suspended for training deficiency, you must make up the missing training, apply for a training waiver, and pay associated fees to the Georgia POST Council to get reinstated, with the process involving potentially attending specific courses and filing forms to resolve the suspension and regain your arrest powers.

Steps to Take:

  1. Identify the Deficiency: Check your POST records through the POST Data Gateway (https://www.gpostc.org/login.php) or your employer to see exactly what training you missed.
  2. Make Up the Training: Complete the required hours, which often include specific courses like Legal Update, Use of Force, De-escalation, Community Oriented Policing, and Firearms Requalification.
  3. Request a Waiver: Submit a formal training waiver request form and pay the associated fees to the GAPOST Council. Use the hyperlink to view instructions on submitting the waiver on the POST gateway. https://gapost.org/wp-content/uploads/2024/08/How-Do-I-Apply-for-a-Waiver_08072024.pdf
  4. Await Resolution: Once you provide proof of compliance and the waiver is granted, POST staff will withdraw the emergency suspension order, restoring your certification/arrest powers, and send you an email to the address posted on your user profile. Because of the volume of waivers to be reviewed, expect a 5-7 business day turnaround.
