POST Certifications fall into three categories: Basic, Career Development, and Voluntary/Specialty. 

A Basic Certification certifies you have received the foundational training needed for your chosen public safety discipline. 

A Career Development Certification certifies you have received the career pathway training needed for promotions and positions of greater responsibility. 

A Voluntary/Specialty Certification certifies you have received the training needed to practice a specific skill set.
